About

Two programs, one developer, one attitude.

VisualDev is not a company but the place where Simon Murk publishes his software: Hiatus Remote for remote support where the relay sees nothing, and Tenjin, a self-hosted media server with native clients.

Why build it yourself

Both projects grew out of the same unease: tools that route screens or media libraries through someone else's servers demand trust that cannot be verified. Hiatus and Tenjin are designed so that the relay only forwards encrypted packets. Passwords never leave the devices, keys are created on both ends, and anyone who does not trust the operator runs the relay themselves.

How the work is done

Logic and user interface are strictly separated: the logic lives in libraries without any dependency on the UI and is covered by unit, integration and fuzzing tests. Architecture, protocols and threat models are described on this website even though the source code stays closed. The manuals are written in German first and updated with every change to the user interface.
